The Chaos Crucible:
A Chinese proverb observes that “If we do not change direction, we are likely to end up exactly where we are headed.”
There is a crucial tipping point in a moment of time at where the tiniest and smallest of energetic impulse induces a cascade into a new trajectory that leads either to breakdown or breakthrough. Much change is 'the one that we never saw coming'. That's because we tend to assume that everything follows a logical trajectory and logical processes are linear. But the real world is not linear. Straight lines are not the norm in Nature. Nature flows in curves of chaos. It emerges in ‘curve balls’ and the unexpected. People might seek security in order but are constantly undone by disorder, just as the inclination to homeostasis, equilibrium and entropy that is countered by importing negative entropy.
It's like a person crossing a boulder strewn stream. On balancing on a rock one cannot stand still (for long). One cannot go back because the momentum is travelling forwards. The status quo becomes tippy and unstable and a critical mass slides irreversibly into a new direction. But, as of the now, we do have a choice. It is described by Ervin Laszlo as a ‘Decision window’. As the world system becomes increasingly unsustainable we descend into a ‘Chaos Window’ and all the things that we have relied upon shake themselves to pieces until we reach ‘The Chaos point’. Mankind can choose either
‘Breakdown
or Breakthrough’.
Einstein said that we cannot solve the significant problems we face at the same level of thinking with which we created the problems. The ‘Breakthrough’ cannot be made with old thinking. It is the old thinking and paradigms that got us here in the first place. It requires fresh thinking and an exponential jump to new thinking and to new visions.
The future is not to be foretold;
it is to be created.
The challenge for people living in the 21stC bombarded by ‘the business of business’ and its multimedia at every level, is to remain in contact with our inner selves, to make the exploration of our own inner space to match the amazing technological developments in the material world.
David Thoreau made the amusing but pertinent observation that people 'had not heard from themselves in a long time!'
To summarize some of the key phrases:
‘Reinvent humanity at the species level’,
‘shared vision and shared dreams’,
‘Partner relationships’,
‘Species consciousnesses,
‘Evolving human spirit and consciousness upwards to a planetary dimension towards ever higher levels of insight, understanding, love and compassion’.
Ervin Laszlo founded the Club of Budapest to, in his words:
"centre attention on the evolution of human values and consciousness as the crucial factors in changing course — from a race towards degradation, polarization and disaster to a rethinking of values and priorities so as to navigate today's transformation in the direction of humanism, ethics and global sustainability".
On Page79 of his book The Chaos Point Laszlo recommends 'sophisticated methods can help to ground oneself. They include traditional ways such as Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Yoga and Ayurveda.” As founder of Satoro, I hold Satoro to be a recapitulation and a reinvention of traditional and future healing (with energy , light and sound) and internal healing practices (such as Misogi) that flies unerringly in accord with this movement and these concepts as a flock of geese towards the future horizon.
